February belongs to the ball season's finale. The Vienna Opera Ball — the one that turns the State Opera auditorium into a dance floor — takes place on Thursday 4 February 2027, and in the days around it the luxury hotels on the Ring are booked and priced accordingly. The rest of the month is calm, and outside that week rates stay close to their winter floor.
Days lengthen noticeably, though it is still a winter month: highs of around 6°C and often grey. Wiener Eistraum turns Rathausplatz and the park in front of City Hall into a skating rink until early March, which is the most Viennese way to spend an hour outdoors.
For everything else, February is an indoor month done well: the Albertina and the Belvedere without crowds, the Spanish Riding School, and long afternoons in a café with a newspaper.
