What it costs
Vienna prices, with the date they were checked
Every figure below carries the day it was checked and a link to whoever publishes it — Wiener Linien, the palaces, the museums, the city. We do not print a price for a Melange or a schnitzel: no classic coffee house or restaurant publishes its menu prices in a form anyone can check, and a guide that states one as fact is guessing.

The city tax on your hotel bill
Vienna's city tax (Ortstaxe) rose to 5% of the accommodation price on 1 July 2026, calculated on the room rate without VAT and breakfast — and it is already legislated to rise to 8% on 1 July 2027. Booking sites often show it separately from the room rate, so check whether the price you are quoted includes it. Minors in school or apprenticeship and students studying in Vienna are exempt.

Euro converter
Austria uses the euro. If your money is in lei, dollars, pounds or forints, here is what the numbers on this site mean — both ways.
So you know what a number means
- Single ride, Vienna core zone€3.00–€3.20≈ 3.5–3.7 USD
- 24-hour ticket€9.70–€10.20≈ 11.2–11.8 USD
- Schönbrunn, Palace Ticket€42≈ 48.5 USD
- Kunsthistorisches Museum€22–€24≈ 25.4–27.7 USD
Where two figures are given, the lower is the digital or online price. · checked 2026-09-16
This is the reference rate, not the rate you will get. Always pay in euros: when a card terminal or cash machine offers to charge you in your own currency, decline — that dynamic currency conversion is set by the machine's operator and is the worst rate on offer.
The one that costs more than any of these
When a card terminal or a cash machine offers to charge you in your own currency, decline and pay in euros. That rate is set by the machine's operator and is consistently worse than your bank's. On a week in Vienna — hotel, palaces, concerts — the difference easily outweighs any single ticket on this page.

Questions about money
How much is a public transport ticket in Vienna in 2026?
A single ride in the core zone is €3.00 digital (WienMobil app) or €3.20 on paper, €3.40 bought on board. A 24-hour ticket is €9.70 / €10.20 and a 7-day ticket €25.20 / €28.90. The 48- and 72-hour tickets no longer exist since 1 January 2026. Checked on 16 September 2026.
How much does Schönbrunn cost?
The Palace Ticket, covering all the piano-nobile rooms, is €42; the shorter State Apartments ticket is €30. The old Imperial and Grand Tours no longer exist. Genuine online tickets are sold only on imperialtickets.com, and the park is free.
Is the Vienna City Card worth it?
For transport, yes, on a two- or three-day stay: 48 hours is €31, 72 hours €37, and it covers public transport in the core zone. For sights it gives discounts, not free entry. The airport is outside the core zone — the transfer is a separate add-on.
Why don't you give the price of a coffee or a schnitzel?
Because no classic coffee house or restaurant publishes its prices in a form we can check and date. We would rather give no figure than an invented one that reads as current.
Should I pay in euros or in my own currency?
Always in euros. When a card terminal or cash machine offers to charge you in dollars, pounds or lei, decline: that conversion rate is set by the machine's operator and is the worst one available.
