Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus

15th district · right bank of the Danube

Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus

A dense, multicultural district behind the Westbahnhof, with the Stadthalle arena and low hotel prices.

What it is

The 15th district begins just beyond the Gürtel at the Westbahnhof. For decades one of Vienna's poorest and most densely built districts, it is today one of its most mixed, with a younger crowd moving into the streets around Reindorfgasse.

What is here

The Westbahnhof, with U3 and U6 and trains towards Salzburg, and the outer end of Mariahilfer Straße. The Wiener Stadthalle, the city's big arena for concerts and sport. Small local markets and neighbourhood cafés. Practical for cheaper hotels a few U-Bahn stops from the centre; not for sightseeing.

Frequently asked

Which district of Vienna is Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus in?

Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus is Vienna's 15th district, on the right bank of the Danube, the same side as the historic centre. It is easy to verify from the postcode: the four digits start with 1, the middle two give the district and the last is 0, so any street address here carries 1150. That is the quickest way to find out where a listing actually is before you book it.

What is worth seeing in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus?

The best-known sights here are Museum 15 - Bezirksmuseum Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. The full list, with opening hours and a map, is further up this page.

Where should I eat in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus?

Among the best-rated restaurants in the district are In Bocca Al Lupo, Beats & Beans and Ochei. The ratings come from Google and are refreshed periodically — they are not paid placements.

Is Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus a good area to stay in?

It depends what you want from it. The accommodation section above lists several options in the district, and the write-up at the top of this page says plainly who the area suits and who it does not. The map at the foot of the page is centred on Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus itself.

Is there a proper Viennese coffee house in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus?

Yes — Café de Fleur and COFFEEWERK | Specialty Coffee. A Viennese coffee house is judged on simple things: the glass of water that arrives with the coffee, the newspapers on wooden holders, and nobody hurrying you out after a single Melange.

Are there Heurigen or wine taverns in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus?

Yes — Grätzlheuriger. Vienna is one of the few capitals with working vineyards inside its city limits, and the wine tavern is the local institution: the good ones pour the house wine by the glass — often a Grüner Veltliner or a Gemischter Satz — and announce themselves with tables full of Viennese.

Does Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus have any nightlife?

Yes. Reference points in the district include Exil in der Märzstraße, café MAUSI and The Chapel Bar - Speakeasy. For the densest concentration of bars, Viennese nights move to the arches under the U6 along the Gürtel and the streets around Schwedenplatz.
